CONVENIENT FORMULATION

Simpler, more convenient administration

Exjade Dispersible tablets for oral suspension

Taken once daily

  • Dispersible tablet that must be stirred into liquid for a fine suspension

Contains lactose and sodium lauryl sulfate

Cannot be taken with food

  • Must be taken on an empty stomach at least 30 minutes before food

Multistep preparation required

  • Need to use a glass, spoon, and liquid

Mixing required

  • Must be stirred in water, orange juice, or apple juice until fine suspension is obtained
  • After the suspension has been swallowed, any residue must be resuspended in a small volume of water or juice and swallowed. The tablets must not be chewed or swallowed whole
Exjade Film-coated tablets

Taken once daily

  • Film-coated tablet that can be swallowed whole.
  • For patients who are unable to swallow whole tablets, the film-coated tablets may be crushed and administered by sprinkling the full dose onto soft food, e.g. yogurt or apple sauce (pureed apple). The dose should be immediately and completely consumed, and not stored for future use.

aRecommended starting doses for transfusional iron overload. Doses (in mg/kg) must be calculated and rounded to the nearest whole tablet size.

  • The deferasirox dose of the film-coated tablets is about 30% lower than the dispersible tablets for oral suspension, due to increased bioavailability
